# Kiiwi > Kiiwi is a macOS menu bar app that makes your Mac keyboard sound like a mechanical one. It plays real recordings of 30+ mechanical switches (linear, tactile and clicky) as you type, through headphones or speakers. $4.99 one-time launch price for the first 100 buyers, then $6.99 one-time; no subscription. macOS Sonoma 14.0 or later, Apple silicon and Intel, 8.9 MB universal download. - It adds sound under the keyboard you already own. It does not change how keys feel and cannot make a loud keyboard quiet. - It listens for key events but never reads what you type: a key event picks a sample and is discarded. Typing stats (new in 1.1) are counts only, never which keys, and stay on the Mac. - Menu bar first: no Dock icon, 0% CPU between keystrokes, a Settings window when you want it. Toggle from anywhere with Shift-Command-K. - Every pack is levelled to the same loudness and trimmed to 2 ms before the hit. Scroll ticks in six styles. - Stats: today's keys, 14-day chart, streak (days with 50+ keys), sustained typing speed, top apps, fun facts, and a share card to post. - Switch families: linear (Cherry MX Red and Black, Tealios, Alpacas, NovelKeys Cream), tactile (Browns, Holy Pandas, Topre) and clicky (Blues, BOX Navy, IBM Model M), plus 8 mouse click packs. - Built by one developer, Tamil Iniyan (Flownix Labs). ## Pages - [Home, with an in-browser playground of the sounds](https://kiiwi.app/) - [Home page as Markdown](https://kiiwi.app/kiiwi.md) - [Every switch, playable, with a page each](https://kiiwi.app/switches) - [Mouse click sounds, playable](https://kiiwi.app/mouse-clicks) - [Roadmap](https://kiiwi.app/roadmap) - [Support and contact](https://kiiwi.app/contact) - [Privacy policy](https://kiiwi.app/privacy) - [Refund policy](https://kiiwi.app/refunds) ## Guides - [Typing sounds for Mac](https://kiiwi.app/guides/typing-sounds-for-mac): how to make a Mac keyboard sound mechanical, the apps that do it and what to look for ## Comparisons Honest side-by-side comparisons with other Mac keyboard sound apps, facts checked against each app's own site and App Store listing (October 2026). - [Kiiwi vs Klack](https://kiiwi.app/compare/klack): Klack needs macOS 15; Kiiwi runs on 14 and adds mouse sounds - [Kiiwi vs Keeby](https://kiiwi.app/compare/keeby): 30 switches vs 12, every Keeby switch is in Kiiwi too - [Best keyboard sound apps for Mac](https://kiiwi.app/guides/best-keyboard-sound-apps-mac): eight apps compared on price, macOS, sounds and mouse support - [Does a keyboard sound app read what you type?](https://kiiwi.app/guides/keyboard-sound-app-privacy): what Kiiwi hears, keeps and sends - [Kiiwi vs CupertinoClicks](https://kiiwi.app/compare/cupertinoclicks): both $4.99 once; Kiiwi has 30 named switches, key-up sounds, scroll ticks and stats; CupertinoClicks has a trainer, notch visualizer and macOS 13 - [Kiiwi vs Thock](https://kiiwi.app/compare/thock): the Mac App Store Thock app vs Kiiwi's 30 switches, mouse sounds and stats - [Kiiwi vs Typemac](https://kiiwi.app/compare/typemac): 30 switches vs 3, mouse sounds and stats; Typemac is $7 and runs on macOS 13 - [Kiiwi vs Haptyk](https://kiiwi.app/compare/haptyk): Haptyk changes the sound with how hard you type on supported Apple Silicon MacBooks; Kiiwi runs on Intel and Apple silicon Macs on macOS 14 or later - [Kiiwi vs Mechvibes](https://kiiwi.app/compare/mechvibes): Mechvibes is free and open source and imports your own sounds; Kiiwi is a signed, notarized Mac app with named switches and no setup - [Switch vs switch sound comparisons](https://kiiwi.app/switches/vs): type on two switches side by side, such as Cherry MX Blue vs Brown or Gateron Black vs Red
